STEM classes for underprivileged girls

Lending out a helping hand can never go wrong, anything done for the greater good is always a good deed and should be followed through with. Teaching children is not an easy task, but if done with the motive and will to do, it is the purest form of joy.

Providing children with knowledge over basic concepts is one of the best things I have done so far in my life. Not only was it selfless, it just felt right. It was a two months course where I took up the mission to help educate some underprivileged girls and teach them about a few STEM courses. I realized that helping such minds spark a passion at such a young age regarding STEM courses might give them a little motivation to opt these subjects as their future goals and help empower females in this field.

Beginning of the sessions, students were just as motivated as I was and we had a great bonding session followed by some really interactive classes. Each class had a new topic and a new array of areas to discover.

The first class began with a simple introduction followed by a beautiful discussion on outer-space. The children and I discussed the nuances of the solar system and looked at the beauty of the undiscovered neighborhood around us. The children were equally eager to be part of this discussion and some were already well-versed with many topics.

The second class brought us back down to our human body. Discussing the intricacies of the human body, seemed to really excite the children. Breaking down the human anatomy and discussing the working and use of different organs was a fun process and there were so many questions, which I enjoyed answering.

The third class took us to the life of a water droplet. This was one of the best classes we had and the one where we had the most fun. We discussed about the life of a droplet and discussed several terrains and factors affecting the water cycle. Diving deep into a droplet, giving it names and discussing how it must feel travelling all day were just a few jokes that we had in this session.

Even though there were not too many children, the discussions and knowledge spread was amazing. What I found most important wasn’t that I enjoyed, it was more about the children learning more about topics they wouldn’t for a long time.

  1. Providing STEM classes for underprivileged girls is a fantastic initiative. It not only empowers these girls with knowledge and skills but also helps bridge the gender gap in the STEM fields.
