Women For Stem India

Episode 3 of Clarity: a Women in STEM talk session by canaries – Dr. Pranita Sarangi

Thank you so much ma’am! Dr. Pranita Sarangi

Our meeting with Dr. Pranita Sarangi, an associate professor at IIT Roorkee, provided us with a wealth of knowledge. She loves science just as much as she loves having adventures. Being the oldest daughter, she wanted to overcome Indian society’s patriarchal mindset and accomplish everything a boy can. Making her parents proud was something she always wanted to do, and throughout her professional career, this was the primary source of her self-motivation. She chose veterinary science, a field that was predominately male, but she never experienced gender discrimination in that field. She is confident that as Indian society develops socially, young ambitious girls will no longer experience gender discrimination in the pursuit of their goals.

Although boys and girls have various social responsibilities, in her opinion, everyone has equal potential. Even while being a good wife, mother, daughter-in-law, etc., you can achieve your goals. When questioned about her thoughts on diversity, she said that she believed everyone had their own opinions and that we should all combine them to come up with the best strategy for any field related to science.

Overall, Dr. Sarangi inspired us to pursue all of our goals by sharing her insightful ideas about the future of women in STEM and by sharing her fascinating professional journey.
